Latest findings in an effective use of waste and plastics in particular. Production and consumption of plastics have overcome the crisis, where plastics play an important role in construction. With respect to the requirements for the long-term application of plastics in construction it is necessary to commence research and application in use of plastics remaining from construction demolition. Plastic waste landfill is forbidden in number of countries therefore, their use is needed in a way of waste burning producing energy, or mechanic recycling.

Some of the producers or associations of producers, are considering creating so called sector EPD, a declaration for the produce from various operations or from various operators. In this article, we will discuss advantages and disadvantages of the sector EPD.

Passive Buildings
A story of one wooden building – Lesovna na Flekačkách, Písek

The building is one of the biggest public buildings made of wood, that was built in this country. It became, unfortunately, rather a pilot project, a way of lessons learnt for public. I was not very pleased about the outcome of this story. From perspectove of architects and supporters of modern wooden structures, this was considered to be a missed opportunity and mis-interpretation of knowledge of specs for wood, that makes it special, from the environmental protection point of view to the sustainable, renewable construction material use. It became, unfortunately, rather illustrative encyclopedia of breaking effectively all rules of the wooden structure protection and use of general technical requirements and standards.

EPBD II Directive Transposition into Czech Legal Regulations
Another round table discussion held by our editor´s office on energy performance of buildings was dedicated to the second directive issued by the European Parliament and Council 2010/31/EU (EPBD II, Energy Performance of Buildings Directive). The discussion primarily focused on issues associated with the directive implementation in the applicable Czech legal regulations.
