This article originated to further explain the subject of lightning protection as a reaction to repase of the new common oppinion of the Department of Building Rules of the Ministry of Regional Development CZ (MMR ČR), the Department of Technical Harmonisation and Consumer Protection of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Czech Republic (MPO ČR) and the Czech Office for Standards, Metrology and Testing (ÚNMZ). The technical public desired a comprehensive explanation of the discussed area in a single document, which would prevent from further misinterpretation.
Increased number of installation of ESE collectors (according to the French national norm NFC 17-102 [1] and STN 34 1391 [2]), that are not in accordance with the relevant legislation of the Czech Republic (legal act no. 183/2006 Sb. [3], and regulation no. 268/2009 Sb. [4]), should be installed based on these documents. The Czech legislation and the following Czech technical norms ČSN EN 62305-1 to 4 [5 – 8] are based on the most recent scientific knowledge about lightning. Collectors' installation ESE approve of not only some inspection technicians, but even persons, responsible for security of reserved electrical equipment in the Czech Republic. These „technicians" usually do not have even a basic knowledge about lightning and its parameters and therefore, put amateur public of escalated risk of lightning current impact.
